Print Ads: Advertising in Magazines

“The difference between the almost right word and the right word is the difference between the lightning bug and the lightning.”   – Mark Twain

Advertising is essential to remind friends, neighbors and customers about your brand.  There is a reason the largest businesses on Earth spend billions on showing you who they are, and what its like to be on their team.  Ads need to be engaging, they need to tell the reader who you are, they must be pithy, and smart, and clean.

Magazines are some of the finest tools in the business marketing arsenal, because the audience is self determined most of the time!  Magazines most often attract the reader based on either a specific Trade or an Interest.

Here are a few examples of David Jacob advertisements in some of Maine’s finest publications.

Dannah is a luxury gift shop in Kennebunkport, ME offering some of the most unique treasures from all over the World.  From clothing to accessories, to small gifts you didn’t know you needed, they are a curated gallery of impressive finds.

For the location, we found a local beach frequented by tourists and proximal to the shop.  The models are the owner and her family, making the effort to capture the real character effortless.

The single shots were used as successful social media ads supporting the magazine campaign, and overall we were very impressed with the final imagery and layout.

We did not need to say much via words, the clothing and smiles of these siblings for a full page Maine Women Magazine ad say it all.

This ad for a luxury travel show needed a tad more copy to convey the value of their attendance to the event.

Fortunately the venue was majestic, the vendors were World class and the food was compelling.

The colors needed to exude luxury, the font needed to bend and twist like a quill.  The language had to invite, and pull the reader down the page.

The ad placement was a Theatrical program, with a very niche art loving audience, who appreciates quality.

The travel show was an impressive success, and shattered expectations.  It was possibly the best received event ever for the State.

Somewhere in between, a quaint cafe in Kennebunkport serving some of the tastiest fuel for a tourist or local alike balances words and images.

We decided to play with the data, so it was not so boring, and offer a bunch of info in the least intrusive way.  By scaling the font, we were able to capture everything we needed.

The imagery had to be compelling, so we chose the most popular dish, and a Birdseye cocktail to add some curiosity, even letting the meat break the visual threshold for the discerning graphic designers out there looking for ways to tie layers together.

The ad placement was for a magazine placed in every Bed and Breakfast, hotel and entertainment venue in the area, assuring eager travelers would certainly take interest.  This specific advertisement was on the inside front cover.
